Captured by Light has two meanings for me. One is the technical process of creating a photograph. Photography is writing or drawing with light. I use a camera to capture light and record it as digital information. That recorded information is then developed with software. The end result is an artistic impression of the interplay between light and subject.
Captured by Light also refers to the fascination I have with different qualities of light. From star light to moon light, blue hour to golden hour, overcast light to direct light, side light to back light, there are so many types of light that each have their own beauty.
My photographic process starts with responding to the scene around me, finding what catches my eye. I spend time observing the subject, noticing the lines, patterns, textures, and contrasts. I then compose in a way that feels aesthetically pleasing. When I process an image my goal is to emphasize what initially interested me in the scene. My published images represent a balance between realism and artistic interpretation.
